Five-star linebacker Rashaan Evans’ commitment to Alabama was one of the big surprises of National Signing Day. Evans is an Auburn native and has family ties with the Tigers, but he instead became the sixth five-star prospect in the 2014 class to pledge his services to the Crimson Tide. The folks in Auburn apparently haven’t taken too kindly to Evans’ decision.

Evans told TideSports.com on Monday that several fans are taking out their frustrations.

“It’s getting worse,” Evans said on Monday evening. “Someone actually put out an article about my family’s business telling all Auburn fans not to go there. We are going to eventually start losing money. People are telling restaurants in the town not to serve us.

“It’s hard for me to go out and chill with my friends like I have always done because people keep coming up to me telling me I made a bad decision. It’s grown men. They are asking me why I did this to them. I told them I had to do what is best for me.”

Evans said that people are even trying to get him in trouble at school. Alabama fans, as expected, have been supportive of his decision. Meanwhile, some Auburn fans are wishing the worst on his forthcoming career in Tuscaloosa. He said that the treatment on social media has been jarring.

“Social media has definitely been the worst,” he said. “People on Instagram are telling me how they hope I tear my ACL in game one. They will laugh when I do. They are saying my family is horrible and how they didn’t raise me right. It’s just crazy.”

One Auburn fan became so sad and disgusted that he put on his coat and hat ran down the street yelling at the top of his lungs, "All I want in this life and time is for Auburn to be number one. " Later he drove to Tuscaloosa and poisoned the goal posts at Bryan-Denny Stadium.

No realistic person would send a dual threat quarterback to Alabama any more than a realistic person would send a defensive end to Auburn.  Get over it and think a little.

Nothing funnier than reading about stories like this. Why do hillbillies from the south get angry when others make fun of their conference/school? You should feel lucky he didn't go to an ACC team, since they clearly owned the SEC. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Its pathetic if you think about it.

Cam Robinson committed to Alabama. You didn't see LSU fans attack him. Just like you didn't see us attack Landon Collins. If Marlon Humphrey would have committed to Auburn, bammers would have been all over it. Auburn fans are no better than anyone else, yet claim they're so superior to everyone because they're a red headed step child. Its so funny listening to both of these fan bases talk on Finebaum and fight over meaningless things as the rest of the nation laughs at them. If Auburn ever does anything bad, all they do is make it seem like its Alabama's fault. If something bad happens to Alabama, bammer fans will try to deny it.

No surprise when you think about it. Can we just go ahead and cut off the state of Alabama from the United States? These people have no sympathy for anyone else. They don't care that their state is among the worst in the nation in literacy, obesity, economic development, unemployment rate, etc. What a sad and pathetic life it must be to know your life is based on what 19-22 year olds do on a football field.

SEC fans aren't harrassing a teenager. Some Auburn fans are. They are mad and disappointed. They feel AU had a right to the services of this young player, regardless of what he wanted or needed. They don't. They should get over it. As a lifelong Alabama native and Bama football fan, I was ashamed of the Tide fans' treatment of Cade Foster and ashamed of the old nut who poisoned Auburn's trees. I hope the reasonable Auburn fans will make their voices heard soon. This is no way to treat a high school student and his family.

BTW, the South is made up of diverse people of many talents and gifts as well as good or bad morals, as is every other part of the world. So stop painting us with one brush.

If there is only one knock on Evans decision, is that it feels a little like LeBron James choosing to go to Miami. It lacks the  heart of a champion. Go to a place where you'll succeed more easily, rather than trying to achieve the same result with slightly less talent around. But it's entirely the Kid's decision. Auburn fans, try to get some perspective. It's college football.

He went to Auburn HS and then chose to go to the bitter rival. He knew darn well this was going to come his way.

Hello Sports Fans: Where one chooses to attend college and what they choose as an Academic Major; and the Sport they choose to participate in is a personal matter. I wish him well as a Student Athlete -- "Play Hard and Study Hard"; "ROLL WAR TIDE EAGLE"! CMB, BEE; MS Auburn University.

Wow.  This is just sad.  You would think the AU fans would be feeling good about themselves after their good year.  I guess an inferiority complex can run really, really deep to stoop to this low level.

Ah, sports fans at their finest.  Doesn't matter how much you enjoy a team.  Learn when to switch off.

His old man couldn't hack it at Auburn stuck behind Bo so he choreographs this whole charade with his son.  If junior didn't want the fallout, why have two rival Opelika High School kids who had already signed with Auburn at his (closed) signing circus?

Auburn fans should tear down the kids parents home and run the parents out of town. Make a statement.

Big crybaby who can't handle adversity. He needs to talk to Cade Foster on what it is like dealing with the bama fan base.

don't want to soapbox too much, but here I go.  This is what happens when we have:

A National Signing Day where millions across the country hold their breath hoping an EIGHTEEN YEAR OLD CHILD signs with their stupid football team.  Yes 18 year olds are children, hell I'm in my early 20s and I'm still a child.  National Signing Day shouldn't exist.  I wish they would toss it.

A system and a people that put athlete before student.

Select cases of MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS (for those of you keeping score, that means 11, 12, and 13 year olds) signing scholarship offers from top collegiate football programs.

When the general populace is invested in something on a broad level, there will be extremists. Religion, Politics, and College Football. That sums up this country in a nutshell.

Haven't watched college football (or sports) ever, which is too bad because it can be an incredible sport.  One and only bowl I've watched: Boise State-Oklahoma at the Fiesta with AP and Ian Johnson.

One of these days some kid is going to get killed over him choosing Alabama over Auburn, or Texas Tech over Texas, or USC over UCLA.  And we'll mourn over his death over something so nonsensical.  Only with a shock that large might this system change. I have no faith.

@The_truth_hurts A 10+ point ACC favorite requiring a kick off return for a touchdown and a contested TD pass with 13 seconds left to squeek by an SEC team means the "ACC clearly owned the SEC"???? lol.  FSU would fit right in with the SEC.  Clemson would be middle of the pack... The rest are a joke.

donald5
donald5

@The_truth_hurts  You realize that a large portion of the ACC is in the South???  Were there any non-southern ACC schools that did well vs the SEC this past year?  You think you might consider your knowledge of geography... pathetic... if you think about it?

donald5

@LSUGrad07   The fact that LSU is the only school of significance in the state makes the situations  VERY difficult to compare.  If there were two bitter rivals in the state of Louisiana fighting over the same recruits, LSU fans would be the exact same way.  What LSU fans don't do in the way they treat the recruits, they make up in all other sorts of completely disgusting and psychotic ways.  Claims that LSU fans are not as crazy is laughable.

donald5
donald5

@LSUGrad07  You seem to have a selective memory when it comes to where Louisiana falls in all of those categories.  According to americashealthrankings.org Louisiana is 48th in overall health with Alabama at 47th.  As of 2013, 34.7% of people in Louisiana are obese while it is 33% in Alabama.  24.8% of Louisiana smokes while 23.8% of Alabama does...  Missed that part right LSU grad???

According to the Report Card on American Education, they did a comprehensive overview of educational achievement levels, focusing on performance and gains for low-income students.  Louisiana was 49th with Alabama 34th.

How can you be so grossly unaware of how bad Louisiana is?

@SaraLove Plenty of reasonable Auburn fans have made their voices heard and send words of support to the kid.  He doesn't mention that though.  Makes me wonder what his true motives are...

@AllThingsConsidered Try not to lump all Auburn fans together.  It is a very small minority saying the negative things... And it is also well established that some fake Auburn fans (Bama fans with fake accounts) were tweeting negative things to him before he even announced his decision, so whose to say all this negativity is coming from real Auburn fans..?  I know at least 20 other Auburn fans and none of the people I know feel the way these supposed a-hole supposed Auburn fans do.

@MrArlington  So it's O.K. that Adults who should know better can treat this kid like he killed their puppy? There is a word for people from the South who think like you: Critter.

@PowerOfDixieland  You can't handle the fact that some one chose Alabama over Auburn, so you are just making stuff up.

proudmule

@SplitingHairs  Now that is a pretty desperate - and pathetically ineffective - attempt to deflect attention away from some pretty horrible behavior on the part of AU fans.

Bootlegger
Bootlegger

@SplitingHairs  Sounds to me like the Auburn fans are the crybabies.  Only a true loser would hassle a kid about his college choice.  But then SEC fans have never been known for their maturity or perspective.

DaveK913
DaveK913

@Plainview Exactly. Kids regularly shun their hometown or home state schools every single year but it's no reason to harass them or their family. It's freaking college football, it's not as though he joined Al Qaeda.

Sounds kind of like sour grapes from Tiger fans, despite beating 'Bama when many thought they had little chance then going on to win a title. What more do you want? You're not going to land every recruit, even when they're right in your back yard.

The_truth_hurts
The_truth_hurts

@donald5 @The_truth_hurts  By south I was referring to the SEC, you know what the "S" stands for, right? Off the top of my head I can think of Georgia Southern beating Florida, at the Swamp(LOL) your lack of knowledge of your own conference is sad, some might even say its pathetic.

LSUGrad07
LSUGrad07

@further41 @AllThingsConsidered  Oh give me a break further41. You guys lump every single bammer into one group, try not be such a stupid hypocrite. All of Alabama is like this, you live in cesspool where people are good at one sport. I've been to Auburn, such a shame a nice place is full of hypocritical morons like you who live everyday to bring down their rivals. I knew it when this guy committed to bama you guys would be all over him like you were with rueben. Just like bama when brent calloway committed to auburn for a short while. And stop with this b.s that bama fans created an account just to make auburn look bad. I've been around sports much longer than most and auburn fans have the biggest inferiority complex of any fan base i've ever seen. No one gives a damn about auburn except auburn folk. You people make me sick on how you base your lives off of football. Get a life.

@DaveK913 @Plainview  Exactly.  I would never have stayed in my hometown to attend college.  After eighteen years of chains, I desired freedom.

@Hendo @The_truth_hurts @branden1971 @donald5  I'm not expecting this doosh bag to admit I'm right.  He is way beyond that.  His "they teach about fruits in the south" tangent, whatever that was about, convinced me that he is either too stupid to grasp what I am saying or is not going to admit it.  I'm don't think I'm gonna waste any more time.  He has been smacked around enough.

donald5
donald5

@branden1971 @The_truth_hurts @donald5  It helps him cover up his embarrassment from having issues distinguishing between the south and the SEC... he probably thinks because all oranges are fruits, it means all fruits are oranges.  I think most of us learned that is wrong in our 1st grade math class.

further41
further41

@branden1971 @further41@SaraLoveMore time in the spotlight. The way his family has dragged out this entire recruiting saga points squarely in that direction.  All recruits receive backlash when they commit to a rival school.  This is the only one that I know of going to the media and crying about it, though...
