Treon Harris to Florida; Chad Thomas to Miami at Booker T. Washington ceremony

Miami’s Booker T. Washington High is a perennial powerhouse; the Tornadoes went 14-0 last season and won the Florida Class 4A championship. That success was thanks largely to stars such as defensive end Chad Thomas and quarterback Treon Harris, among many others, who announced their college choices at a school ceremony on Wednesday morning.

In typical Signing Day fashion, things didn’t go as planned. Thomas delayed the festivities by arriving late, something that resulted in a bumbling, documentary-style, one-man camera search for the prospect. He blamed his tardiness on a “late breakfast” before he declared for Miami, to which he had verbally pledged last July.

Harris, meanwhile, changed his mind. The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder, who threw last fall for 2,159 yards and 28 touchdowns, with four interceptions, flipped from Florida State to Florida. He’s a huge pickup for the Gators, who finished 113th in the FBS in total offense (315.5 yards per game) while limping to a 4-8 record in 2013. Florida’s offense did lots of things like this.

It will be interesting to see how new Gators offensive coordinator Kurt Roper utilizes Harris, who recently told AL.com that he sees himself as a blend of Jameis Winston and Nick Marshall. “Jameis can throw the ball, and I can throw the ball,” he said in January. “Nick can run the ball, and I can run the ball.”

Florida already has a highly touted quarterback in its 2014 class in Will Grier, and is well on its way to putting together a top-10 recruiting class. The Gators have also signed defensive backs Jalen Tabor and J.C. Jackson and defensive tackle Khairi Clark.

While it's nice to get the good players, they still have to be 'coached up' to win. Now, where is that more likely to happen?

FU gets the Noles' scraps, while surrendering their 5 stars to their superiors.  As it should be...

Treon Harris, you're making a mistake. Gators aren't going to national championship game for next five years.  you could get your bling your freshman season.

Florida may have an interesting decision down the road. Remember in their 2007 class, they had two highly touted quarterbacks. A couple of years later they kept John Brantley and dumped Cam Newton.

@GoSeminoles  Problem is he'd have to live in Tallahassee for a few years. No one wants that.

@ApolloOne  They didn't dump Newton. He was kicked out for cheating twice. Plus the whole stolen laptop deal.

@JeffOH12 @ApolloOne  I was gonnasay, Cam made that decision for them, plus they didn't want any undue pressure on Tebow- reports outta Ganiesville say Tebow was coming off a Heisman season, yet getting schooled in practice by Newton, causing a little turmoil on the team
