LSU lands Malachi Dupre, Travonte Valentine, Trey Lealaimatafao in succession
Early on Wednesday morning, Les Miles received a cup of coffee live on ESPNU. If coffee is for closers, Miles has earned another few cups. The Tigers nabbed five-star wide receiver Malachi Dupre, four-star defensive tackle Travonte Valentine and three-star defensive tackle Trey Lealaimatafao in rapid succession right around 11 a.m. ET. The impressive haul bumped LSU’s class into the top five of Rivals.com’s team rankings, with another few surprises still left on the board.
Florida State and UCLA were both in the mix for Dupre, but they aren’t the only teams capable of churning out NFL prospects. The Tigers also send plenty of players to the pros, including the recently departed Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. Dupre boasts great size for a wideout, and nicely complements Leonard Fournette, the top-rated running back in this year’s class.
Dupre is from River Ridge, La., and his highlight video shows him to be a vertical threat who should help LSU’s offense to stay balanced.
Valentine and Lealaimatafao should provide even more depth for a Tigers defense that underperformed in 2013, but which looks scary — on paper, anyway — heading into next season.
