Four-star DE Solomon Thomas commits to Stanford, reveals mini-tree

National Signing Day, Recruiting, Stanford Cardinal

Four-star defensive end Solomon Thomas kicked off National Signing Day on a high note with his commitment to Stanford live on ESPNU. Thomas, Rivals.com’s No. 3 strongside defensive end, pulled out a tree and donned nerd glasses as he committed to the Cardinal on national TV.

Thomas had narrowed his list of schools to Stanford, Arkansas and UCLA after previously considering Ohio State and Texas. He visited the Razorbacks with his final campus visit two weeks ago — his sister attends school in Fayetteville — but he ultimately decided to pledge his services to coach David Shaw. With 78 tackles, 12.5 sacks and 26 tackles for loss as a senior at Coppell (Texas) High, Thomas should fit right in with the Cardinal’s stout defense.

This commitment is even more impressive considering that Stanford lost respected defensive coordinator Derek Mason to Vanderbilt. Nevertheless, the Cardinal have been to two straight Rose Bowls and four consecutive BCS games. That sales pitch alone surely helped secure Thomas, the No. 4 overall player in the talent-rich state of Texas.

This kid made the right choice if he did not want to stay in state and play for Texas.  Going to Stanford on a full ride is the easy choice when considering going to Arkansas and UCLA instead.

@slmandel you're going to call out the adults who attack kids again today, right? That was the best part about last year.
