Another candidate for the Texas coaching job has withdrawn his name from consideration. UCLA coach Jim Mora told the Los Angeles Times on Friday that he is committed to the Bruins.

Mora’s declaration came only hours after Baylor coach Art Briles issued a similar statement regarding his tenure with the Bears.

According to the Times, Longhorns officials contacted Mora’s agent after it was announced that Mack Brown, the longtime Texas coach, would be stepping down at season’s end. When asked about the rumors on Friday, Mora said he appreciated the attention, but his focus remains in L.A.

“It is always flattering when someone is interested in you. But I am committed to being the UCLA coach.”

Earlier this season, Mora’s name had also been connected to the opening at Washington, his alma mater. But the coach agreed to a six-year extension with the Bruins that effectively squashed his chances of taking over the Huskies. When the school announced Mora’s extension, the coach said in a statement that the program had “only just scratched the surface of our potential, and as a Bruin fan, I’d be chomping at the bit just to see what UCLA football is going to do next.”

Mora is 19-8 in two seasons at UCLA and has finished in the top-two in the Pac-12 South in both seasons. On Friday, he tweeted that he remains proud of the UCLA program.

What part of "not interested" do "Insiders" like Adam Shefter, and ESPN writers and show hosts, not get?  No credible evidence ever surfaced which "linked" Mora to Texas.

Something special must be Bruin at UCLA if Coach Mora turned down $5 mil/year.

Strong to Texas!

Mora is an NFL guy, not a college guy, so he isn't predisposed to climbing the college football ladder like Nick Saban, Bobby Petrino, or Todd Graham.  NFL guys rarely jump from franchise to franchise on their own volition.  I think Mora will eventually leave UCLA when the right NFL job comes calling, much in the same vein as Pete Carroll, but hopefully for UCLA's sake, not under the same circumstances.

This would have been a disaster for UT.

It may actually come down to the only person willing to take the job at Texas is Lane Kiffen... or re hire Mack for more money.

@SInow So he didn't say he was staying. He just said he was committed to a job he already has as opposed to job he hasn't been offered... :/

At UCLA he owns the city. Of course he's not going to Texas. It's in Texas.

Having watched Little Jimmy's career in Atlanta and Seattle, I think UCLA is his Twilight Zone and he really needs to stay there.

"After reviewing my direct deposit bank account that changed from yesterday to today. I"m staying at UCLA!"

@Cool

I usually can get behind your comments, but this one about (Kiffen) is stupid.  Sorry man.

... And Jerry Jones owns Texas. Besides, it IS in Texas.

@Listening @Cool Amen to that.  Texas wouldn't take Kiffin as their head coach even if Kiffin PAID the University of Texas $5 million a year to be their coach.
