It’s done. Your voice has been heard. Democracy has run its course. Last week, SI.com unveiled a 32-coach, winner-take-all bracket featuring candidates who have been linked — at one point, in some way or another — to the open Texas job. Today, we crown a champion. According to you, our noble readership, Art Briles should succeed Mack Brown as the next head coach of the Longhorns.

Briles, who led Baylor to an 11-1 record and its first-ever BCS bowl berth in 2013, gained 54.5 percent of the vote over Jim Harbaugh in the final. Briles captured more than 56 percent in his matchup with Jimbo Fisher in the Final Four after emerging from the hotly contested Ain’t Played Nobody Division. Click on the following links for complete voting results from the first, second, third and fourth rounds, respectively.

Texas’ ultimate hire remains to be seen, and the school’s eight-person search committee is currently considering a number of candidates. But the nation has spoken. The Internet has weighed in. Briles for Bevo.

(*Note: This bracket has absolutely no input on Texas’ actual hiring decision. Well, at least none of which we’re aware.)

Was hoping Muschamp would be the one.

Baylor guy would be a good choice, local, good relationships with high school coaches throughout the state. On positive side Texas indicated the $4M buyout to get him might be a problem. Maybe they're learning that's a better approach then spending a year throwing money around watching top coaches getting big raises to stay put.

Tick tick tick tick.  Recruiting is impacted with ever passing day that the uber committee sits and ponders.

For all the haters, Texas can get what ever coach they want. They are beyond rich and have more resources than anybody. Fact. Briles is not even on their radar though.

Are Texas fans as delusional as the national media? Texas can't just pick who their next coach will be. Harbaugh isn't leaving the 49ers. Tomlin isn't leaving the Steelers. Fisher isn't leaving FSU. Shaw isn't leaving Stanford. Briles isn't leaving Baylor.

They will end up with some meh hire like James Franklin.

The next coach at Texas did not even make your original list of 32! Nice brackets SI -

If no coach has been selected by January 2nd, Nick Saban will be contacted following the Alabama vs Oklahoma (Sugar Bowl) game which will setup the Saban vs Stoops rivalry for the next 7 years.

First of all, I think that Mack Brown did a fantastic job, taking a tiny school from a tiny state, where soccer is the primary sport, and having winning records.  But I'm sorry that my pick of Lane Kiffen didn't win--he would have been perfect for the Texas knuckle draggers!  May they and their pitiful network continue to puke on their shoes.

Jeez, I hope they don't really hire Briles. SI will never let us hear the end of it.

Longhorns fans want a coach from a school in Whacko, Texas to lead 'em.

Figures.

No way David Shaw'd take the job. First loss and the likes of Better Dead Than Ted Cruz, Steve Stockman, Crazy Louie Gohmert, Spanky Burgess, BP Barton, and Governor Oops would lynch Shaw in front of the Alamo.

@6marK6Great point.  Because a coach from the state of Texas that has done great stuff with a Baylor program that has been in the dumps for years would not even merit a second look.  Seems like you are just pretending to be an insider.

@6marK6LOL.  You just keep telling yourself that while your wishlist keeps saying "nah, I'm good".

@6marK6They can't just get whoever they want. If that were true, Saban would already be their next coach, right? Or Harbaugh? Jimbo Fisher? It sounds good in theory but it doesn't work that way.

@6marK6 No one can get whatever coach they want.  Money, while a powerful draw, is not the only thing some candidates consider.

@Pierre1

Pierre1 you called it exactly right, none of these coaches are interested in leaving where they are at, the best case scenario is for Texas to get OSU coach Mike Gundy. He would jump at the chance to coach Texas and he's experienced and a good recruiter. I've read some comments that he has only beat OU once since he has been at OSU - yes, but think what he could do with the talent that he can attract at Texas! Mike is without question the best man for the job!

@JrJoseHerrera They had Muschamp as the coach in waiting, but he was tired of waiting.  He *might* go back to texas because the Florida seat is getting a little hot, but leaving the SEC is a step back.  It would be an easier path to a title game tho.

@OK Are you really angry and stupid enough to think those thoughts or was that a spoof on liberals?

@OK I must have missed the section noting this was only open to Longhorn fans.  So Panama Red, go blaze another one and troll some more.  Makes me feel good knowing you are my competition for survival....have a super day.
