Who should be the next Texas coach? Vote in the Final Four of SI.com’s bracket

We’re almost there. Can you feel it? Can you sense it? We’re so close to knowing who will be the next Texas coach (if the Internet had its say). Last week, SI.com unveiled a 32-coach, winner-take-all bracket featuring candidates who have been linked — at one point, in some way or another — to the open Texas job. The idea was simple: Instead of having an eight-person committee conduct the Longhorns’ search to replace Mack Brown, the entire Internet would help decide. This is America. Land of the free. Home of the brave who love voting in polls.

Fourth-round voting begins now and will end on Thursday, Dec. 26 at noon ET. The complete results from the third round are listed beneath the latest poll matchups. Second-round results can be found here. First-round results are here.

Which of the remaining four coaches is the people’s choice (and the entirely hypothetical Texas headman of the future)? Vote below.

(*Note: This bracket has absolutely no input on Texas’ actual hiring decision. Well, at least none of which we’re aware.)

Third-round results

• No. 3 Jimbo Fisher (59.3%) over No. 5 James Franklin (40.7%)

• No. 2 Art Briles (62.9%) over No. 1 Charlie Strong (37.1%)

• No. 2 Jim Harbaugh (52.8%) over No. 1 Jon Gruden (47.2%)

• No. 1 David Shaw (50.3%) over No. 3 Mike Gundy (49.7%)

As an alumni, Bill O'Brien is my #1 option.

I think UT has interest in Shaw and Harbaugh. Briles and Fischer are not practical.

Fisher can win more NCs at FSU than he can at Texas, so can't see him go.  Texas can spend lots of $$ on a coach, so it that is your only reason to go, then go.  But Jimbo will get a nice extension at FSU, win or lose the NC.

All this for a program that has won one national title in the last 40 years.

This is so dumb, I'm surprised ESPN didn't do it.

How about putting up a list of candidates that Texas has a serious shot at getting instead of this hyperbole.

It's Franklin or Briles and I think it will be Franklin.

@Rax- did you forget the NCG when they beat USC, or do you just not like UT?

@RaxThis has to do what with what?  I'd say it's all this for a program that is the single most valuable/profitable in all of college athletics.  Money talks. BS walks.  So...start walking, "Rax".

@megalodale @Rax Is that the same kind of bs that Texas has been serving up for most of the last three decades on the field or the court? Never has so little been achieved by so much expenditure and built in advantages. I know it is only low level amateur sport but you would think they could have done so much more even allowing for that.

@newshamg @megalodale @Rax Thank u! Texas hasn't won jack for people to drool all over them! All the athletes.. 4 and 5 stars, they get year in and out, and don't win as much as they should.
