Another coveted 2014 prospect is off the board. Liberty County (Ga.) High linebacker Raekwon McMillan announced his decision to attend Ohio State on Monday, beating out Auburn, Georgia, Clemson and Alabama. In a ceremony broadcast on NBC Sports Network, McMillan cited early playing time and the Buckeyes’ family vibe as the reasons for his commitment. He fumbled with an Alabama hat before ultimately grabbing an Ohio State cap.

“It was just something special about Ohio State University,” McMillan said on NBCSN. “Every time I visited the school. Every time I talked to coach [Urban] Meyer on the phone. Every time I talked to coach [Luke] Fickell. Every time we sat down to talk. We just had a special bond.”

The Hinesville, Ga., native is the top-rated linebacker in the class of 2014 and 19th best player overall, according to Rivals.com. Ohio State was the last school to make its pitch, as coach Urban Meyer and several assistants made an in-home visit with the defensive star on Sunday evening. At 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, McMillan already has the size to make a collegiate impact, and he boasts good speed as well. He has a reputation for making huge hits — and could potentially get into some trouble if he repeatedly goes for the home-run play — and the type of rare athleticism that can cover up a lot of mistakes.

McMillan accounted for 159 tackles, 8.5 sacks and 35 tackles for loss as a senior to lead Liberty County to an 8-3 record in 2013. He also won the high school Butkus Award.

Ohio State now has 18 verbal commitments in its 2014 class, which currently is fourth in Rivals.com’s team rankings. McMillan is the fourth linebacker in the group, joining four-star prospects Kyle Berger and Dante Booker and three-star recruit Sam Hubbard.

ooh well, we all know ohoio st is overrated, and they will be, Mr McMillian u a choice, a bad one at that, but I wish u the best of luck coming up short every year to the sec in national title games. which u would have been apart of if u would have committed to bama. its just a verbal commit, maybe he will come to his scenses when he figures out what a dumbass move he made. He can decommitt, which he probably will. if wants win championships he will see the light and come to bama, same w/ hootie jones if he wants to win championships he'll recommitt to bama and not even think about going to LSWHOO!

playemball. Sabans not a good coach. Are you crazy? If he's not any good why is every program that's a decent wants him. The call in the Auburn game wasn't bad. It just didn't work out. You win some(3 championships at Bama and 1 at LSU) and you lose some! Get real

That's strange because he didn't seem scared to play real teams.

I was hoping he would choose North Dakota. They are building a dynasty over there.

Glad to see Meyer build these guys back into a powerhouse and give the conference relevance again. Nothing better than B1G football.

Ohio State beat Miami, a team considered one of the greatest of all time, for the national championship.

Ohio State beat Oregon in the Rose Bowl, a very good Notre Dame team with Brady Quinn in the Fiesta Bowl, one of Bill Snyder's better K-State team in the Alamo Bowl, Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl. They lost a couple of games in a row against LSU and Flordia but have had some nice wins.

Go to weak conference, play a weak schedule, win 15-24 in row, talk about playing for a national championship then when you finally play a tough opponent get whipped.

Welcome to Buckeye Nation Raekwon!

The more time spent glorifying kids who have done nothing at the college level, the more corrupt the players and the sport become.

It is also a waste of time, as the success of lightly recruited players such as Manziel proves year after year.

(2 years later)........This just in, star Ohio State linebacker Raekwon McMillan sat in jail overnight after receiving his second DUI in 2 weeks. In a statement Urban Meyer said that McMillan will not be suspended for next week's game, rather he will be suspended from.......the XBOX in the player's lounge.

The defense needed this. Losing Shazier and the d-line has experience now and can protect this guy from getting blocked.

What's crazy about that LB class is that 3-star Hubbard might be the best of the lot. Kid was a 6'6" safety in HS! Maybe just after seeing former #1 LB recruit Curtis Grant's utterly disappointing career so far, I'm hesitant to call McMillan a sure star. Still, I'd rather have Meyer and his staff stacking elite recruits like hotcakes at tOSU than have them go elsewhere!

Good idea...go and play for Urban the cheater and the highest paying college in America.

@Msgrayback Just my opinion..when you have players lining up to go to Ala..you should win a lot of games and championships..just saying he's a great recruiter..same as Cal from Ky..can't coach that well..but recruits all the best players..and he also has a championship..again, just my opinion!

Actually, the win over K state was in the fiesta bowl

@RichardHernandez I suspect that the vitriol spewed by SEC fans toward Ohio State comes from a lingering resentment for the smack down that Buckeyes Sherman and Grant laid on them in 1863-65.  That coupled with their own sense of inferiority in most of the important things in life leads them to compare the records of an entire conference against those of a single school as the only way they can feel any self worth at all.

It really is sad when you think about it.

@Dave36 The idea didn't hit you..sooner or later..a team is going to lose to someone?  Did your team win 15-24 in a row..exactly! Go Buckeyes

I'm curious. How does announcing the kid signed a scholarship "glorify" him?

@ChoutsuSeriously?  Meyer suspended a starter this summer for 3 games for what ended up being a non-incident.  He probably lost BigTen player of the year and a seat at the Heisman table for that.

Insert Les Miles and it works too.

@blairg when you make such a glaringly absurd statement like that you make yourself look inept at best and just plain stupid at worst. Please list for us the instances the Urban Meyer cheated. We'll wait....................... and please don't bother with minor NCAA infractions, I think breathing might be one...

@blairg   thanks for the props.  The kid did indeed make a good decision.  Welcome to the Buckeye family Raekwon.   Ignore jealous types like blairg.

@DocZom@RichardHernandez SEC teams won't play out of conference games against good teams especially on the road. Tennessee, who beat South Carolina, played Oregon this year in Eugene and lost by 40 points. Ohio State played home and home against USC and Texas and will be playing Oregon, Oklahoma and Va Tech in the next couple years.

@Doug1 @Choutsu Dontre Wilson, Marcus Hall, and Urban would play Aaron Hernandez now if he still had eligibility left.

@Choutsu Insert any Big Time college football program and it works. With very few exceptions, all of college football is corrupt on some level. USC, OSU, Penn State, AU, NC, Miami just to name a few that have had major Rules violations. The most corrupt part of college football however is the NCAA itself. These coaches are taking on a difficult task of taking you men who for the most part have never had a steady father figure in their lives (not a racist statement just a cold hard reality that almost 70% of African American births there is no steady father in the picture) and guiding these young men to be winners both on and off the field. You know some of these kids are going to screw up and you have to find a balance as a coach and an organization between being merciful and forgiving to being tolerant and enabling and many times these coaches allow one mistake too many and and the appearance is that they have out of control players and lack any discipline. I have made a few bone head decisions in my 49 years as well and I would sure hate to have every wrong decision that I made viewed under a microscope as these players and coaches do. So I do think giving extra patience is better than being intolerant, overbearing and unforgiving but there are times when you have to draw a line and cut guys loose who just will not listen.

@Dublinbuckeye @blairg No...don't misunderstand me.  I love OSU.  But I researched Urban Meyer before he was here and the guy is a certifiable cheater.  No question about it.  It's why he left Florida.....and everyone knows Ohio State cheats.  It's why their old Coach left.  Some fans say "OSU, love it or leave it".  I don't agree with that.  Even supporters need to have ethics.

andrade21
andrade21

@Dublinbuckeye Yeah it's amazing how dumb people are.   I always ask for someone like this to show where OSU ever was ever convicted of paying a recruit to attend.  And of course they can't...  Not to mention Urban has zero NCAA violations under his name.

@MarcoZ @DocZom @RichardHernandez SEC teams play quality out of conference opponents in the National Championship game.... of which an SEC team is 6-0 against non-SEC teams recently.

Tiny1ota

@Choutsu Urban sat Marcus Hall, the starting right tackle, for the entire Big 10 championship game.

Doug1

@blairg@Dublinbuckeye Really, Urban Meyer / Ohio State cheats?  The worst Meyer can be accused of is 'oversigning' when he was at Florida.  That isn't even an offense in the SEC, but it is in every other conference.  I think we'd all like to hear about your 'research'.

Everyone knows that Miami and USC cheated, for BIG money.
