South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier never resists a chance to get a quip in

South Carolina’s coach runs this. And he’ll never let you forget it.

Florida is 4-8 and lost to an FCS team for the first time in program history. But if they’re already dead, they can’t complain about another shovelful of dirt tossed on the pile now can they?

Before you accuse Spurrier of picking on the weak ones, he’s not afraid to go after the big dogs, too. The Head Ball Coach proved no one is off-limits when he turned his witticism on No.1 Florida State and had a dig ready to go while discussing his star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney’s citation for driving 110 mph.

Never winning in Tally still burns his butt.

And just to show you all how good of a coach he is.

Steve made these comments knowing the attention would go to him after Clowny got a ticket.

Jimbo sure didnt do that for his QB did he? I wonder if Jimbo knew something about what really happened that night and wanted some distance if it played out differently!?!?!?!

How can you not love Steve Spurrier?

I don't see Spurrier's name ever mentioned for head coaching positions at other schools... wonder why?

Steve never fails to disappoint ; he is the last of the " characters " in cfb with any real success. The new crop are all Process and Belichek . It is nice that Steve is still bitter about his 0 - 5- 1 at DOAK;keep that memory alive lizard.

So many coaches and managers out there in all of sports who are "afraid" to have anyone on their team or their coaching staff say anything that could end up on their opponents bulletin board.

Some coaches freak if this is done.

Spurrier shows them all that it's a bunch of bull.

He jokes and has fun.  People expect this of him.  Heck, if I was the opposing coach and he did NOT say anything about our team, program etc...  I'd USE that as my bulletin board material.  I'd tell them that he doesn't think enough of us to say anything about us.

Seriously now, he has fun.  He knows it takes hard work, preparation etc... and he and his teams do that but he also knows that this is about entertainment.  He knows there is the 24/7 media and he's glad to have his team being mentioned out in it.

There are way TOO many boring coaches.  I'd rather listen to Spurrier any day than listen to Belichck of the Pats.

He's a great interview.  He knows it, the media knows it, the fans know it...so why mess up a good thing?

Kinda doubt I'd jab FSU since the are playing in what bowl again.....compared to yours Steve?

Between FSU and FU, one of them has been put on probation because of football players receiving free cars (John L. Williams, Palatka Ford ring a bell?!) and it's not FSU.

He should be able to say what he wants.  I mean, after all, he's won all those conference championships since going to South Carolina.  Oh wait....

Come on, don't you all get tired of the coaches saying things like, 'They're a great team, we'd be honored to beat them', or 'Those guys are all well coached and we'll have a real time trying to beat them', etc., etc., ad infinitum? I like that Spurrier takes shots now and then. He's much more entertaining that Lou 'I'm scared to death of that (1-10) team'. This is a game for Pete's sake, stop taking it all so seriously.

Spurrier earned the right to talk all he wants to about anyone.  Winning does that.

Dan Snyder... Steve who?

yaumers

Hahaha  Spurrier can talk all the trash he wants. But the proof is in the record. Stevie was owned by FSU 5-8-1 while at UF. And the "1" tie was the infamous "Choke at the Doak" when the Gators were up 31-3 after 3 quarters. Also, FSU most recently beat South Carolina in the 2010 Chik-Fil-A bowl. Finally, he's got a losing record against UF since he's been at SCe. Truth hurts, lil' Stevie.

@SamNadaHate to break it to you, but he did win there more than once...

Stay classy Florida State Criminoles!

Lets all give a cheer for the Semenoles! (and the one handed wave circles Doak)

@SteveRowFla Care to share the history on that? I can not seem to find anything reported on it?

And this should mean that he can't have any fun at a press conference?  Do you have that stick up your hoop 24/7?

@2001mark Yeah because Dan Snyder has done so well as the owner of the Skins. Dan needs to keep out of the football operations side of being an owner and just sit in his skybox and get somebody in there that knows what they are doing!

@yaumers He was implying they were dirty.  Better cars than what Clowney was driving.  If they were dirty and he wasn't then of course they would have the upper hand.

@yaumers Yeah, the infamous tie because Bobby didn't have the balls like Michigan to go for the win, at home, no less.  And how bad did FSU own the Gators in the national championship game when you got crushed at the Sugar Bowl?  There's nothing wrong with FSU's year finally getting here, we were all tired of hearing "this is the 'noles' year" only to find out, uh, no, it wasn't.  The only bad thing is their lame, fair-weather fans (how many sell-outs at Doak?) learn how to talk all over again.  Or maybe they're just now learning to talk, since a lot of them weren't born the last time FSU mattered.  And to get five wins against Free Shoes U and Third-Chance Bobby is pretty good.

@RhettJones 32 wins (going on 33) in 3 years isn't "winning"?  I'm pretty sure there are only 4 teams in the nation with better.  Unless you believe Saban is the only coach in America qualified to speak, Spurrier's sitting pretty high up there at the moment.

Don't know ya, so can't say whether you're foolish or just naive... but today's pro sports owners are 1%ers who look at their team as a toy to be played with. Jerry Jones, Al Davis (rip), Dan Snyder, Steinbrenners etc types showed over and over they didn't care what fans think... its 3-D fantasy sports for them. IF they make a profit too... fine. Its all about attention and ego.

@72FINS @yaumers Preaching to the chior 72! FSU fans are the biggest fair weather johnsons out there. Most of them should move to Napa Valley because they know how to whine!

Chessmaster

All sour grapes and old news from another Gator fan who doesn't know what to do with his spare time since his team is done for the year. Granted the FSU guy did it too, but at least he kept the talk about Spurrier... who, after all, is the focus of THIS article. There's not a team in the country that hasn't had some scandal at some time, but the state of Florida seems to outdo them all.

@72FINS @yaumers FSU scored with 1:41 remaining on the clock  He made no effort to go down field. So who had balls ?

EnashWaca
EnashWaca

There was still time left in that game so Bobby wanted to tie it and see if he could get the ball back (which he did).  he just came up about 10-15 yards short of attempting a game winning FG.  But don't let facts get in the way of your rant.

@SteveRowFla @toddgeist

I think Todd is still waiting for the information. That story said nothing about your claim.

It talked about child support payments?

olansuddeth

Ten wins a year in South Carolina is pretty much unprecedented.  He may never win a title there, but anyone that says Spurrier isn't a winner is a fool.

@Chessmaster

Hmmmm one thing each of those teams has is player/owner/manager(coach) controversies!

Dan does need to stay put in the skybox!
