On Monday ESPN announced the six Heisman Trophy finalists vying for college football’s most prestigious award.

The 2013 Heisman Trophy finalists, in alphabetical order, are: Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, Auburn running back Tre Mason, Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, Boston College running back Andre Williams and Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston.

According to Chris Huston of HeismanPundit.com, six finalists will make their way to New York for only the second time in Heisman history and the first time since 1994.

The winner of the 2013 Heisman Trophy will be announced Saturday at the Best Buy Theater in New York. The ceremony will be televised on ESPN starting at 8 p.m. ET.

2013 Heisman Theme:  When Reality trumps the Hype Machine.

No one seems to know who to vote for because the players that have been hyped all season either didn't live up to the standard on the field, or destroyed their chances off the field.  But then again, this popularity contest has had many stink years before.

Out of all the finalist there is only one who holds 3 rings 2 repeat rings who has had no of season fiascos and has the more integretiy than any of the ones i have seen so far    AJ

This is a tragedy, Winston should not even be there, rapists shouldn't be allowed to win the Heisman!!!! Florida State Attorney Willie Meggs has no sack and caved to the powers that be......I hate Johnny Football and I'd rather him win it again than a rapist.........what a farged up world we live in............

It is a travesty that Derek Carr was not invited to the Heisman award ceremony. This snub is further testimony of the east coast bias (ESPN included) against west coast teams/players as none of the nominees play west of the Rockies. I will not watch the ceremony as ESPN has already announced (campaigned for) the winner. Perhaps a west coast entity should create a national college football award so that the majority of the voters will at least watch west coast games unlike many east coast Heisman voters.

The only valid selection process for the best draft-eligible college football players is the NFL draft. Heisman finalists not selected in the first round underline how political and media-influenced this once prestigious award has become. A beauty contest dominated by sports media.talking heads most of whom do not any more about football than those who watch them, often in disbelief.

I have no doubt that if Braxton Miller and Carlos Hyde hadn't missed several games at the beginning of the season, they very well might have had to invite both players. Even still, Carlos Hyde should be on this list. He absolutely destroyed and ran over just about every person that tried to stop him this year.

IMHO Hyde should have gotten an invite anyway.

For what AJ has done the last 4 years,  I think he deserves it....

They need Manziel there to validate the Heisman...it's like...oooh he beat the reining champ! I don't watch it nor do I care who wins, it is long past being relevant.

Just can't understand how Manziel is rated so highly above Oregon's excellent quarterback..... Mariota: 3,412, 30 TD, 4 INT, Rush: 81-582 (7.2) 9 TD. Manziel: 3,372, 33 TD, 13 INT, Rush: 133-686 (5.2) 8 TD. Oregon 10-2, TAMU 8-4.

@rlouie11 Apparently you have more evidence than the state attorney. Please share.

There is zero evidence that Winston is a rapist.  Only a claim by a jilted woman and her claims are refuted by eyewitnesses and physical evidence.  What a farged up world we live in that you would convict him with no evidence and no trial.  And I am NOT a Winston or FSU fan, I'm rooting for Auburn.

Of the 78 awards handed out,  10 from the West Coast (USC, UCLA, Standford, Oregon St.).   I'd say that's pretty fair.  But it's not the east coast that get's most....  Most are from Central USA...(ND, Ohio St, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M and Wisconsin account for 31 awards just between those schools).    However, Carr deserves consideration for sure.

@Misch The Heisman is supposed to be awarded to the best college football player.  Someone's NFL stock has no bearing on it.  If it were about who is likely to be the best pro football player, Peyton Manning would've won multiple Heismans, as he was pegged as a star since he was a freshman at Tennessee.

I watched the Michigan State game and the only person I saw "run over" anyone was the MSU running back.  I saw a number of other better running backs during the year.

AJ isn't even the best/most outstanding player on his team - actually on his offense.  AJ being invited is a joke.

He's a great piece, invaluable, of a powerhouse team. I love the guy. Yet, Jameis Winston is going to win it if you ask me. The other guys are outstanding too but it is Winston's trophy to lose, with is talent and production.

You know it's best college player of the year, right? Not of the past two, three or four years?

Funny stuff.   By taking the time to tell the world that you do not care about the Heisman Trophy, and that it is not relevant, you are contributing to its relevancy.  Kinda ironic, huh?

The Heisman, sadly, has become a joke.  Seems to me a player's character should have a part in selection, as well as their talent.

Because Manziel put up those numbers in a conference with defensive line play.  We saw what happened to Oregon when they played a team with a strong defensive line (Stanford).  Hint: the same thing that happens every year (see Stanford 2012, LSU 2011, Auburn 2010) - they got pushed around, and the vaunted passing attack did little to nothing.

That being said, I do think that Mariota deserved an invite.  Lynch?  Psh.  Give me a break.

Mariota looks best on strength of schedule among the video game qbs

@JoeCabot That's not the point of his post at all. It's a stupid award that no longer means anything.

Wesley11

Then isn't your post taking the time to tell the world that you do not care about his post about the Heisman Trophy, and that his post is not relevant, contributing to his post's relevancy?

Pat11

Well that and he plays in a defensive minded conference. With that said, Martin should win. He is putting up crazy #s against tough rush defenses.

If the award meant nothing it would no longer draw the attention that it does.

@Wesley11 but then your post is my post and wesley's post is no post, better watch the goal post!!!! WHOOOOOOOO

I did not write that I don't care about his post or that it was not relevant.  Actually I value that type of amusing irony.

Auburn's defense isn't great, but to be fair, their offense scores so quickly that other teams kill them in time of possession (and thus, inflate their yardage totals).

In case you haven't noticed, though, Auburn's rushing attack has been making good (even great) rushing defenses look silly all year (see Alabama, Georgia, Missouri - all top 15 rush defenses).  If FSU holds them under 250, they will have really accomplished something.

Who is Martin?  I don't see anyone with that name on the list.

Maybe the offenses are just that good.

@Pat11 The SEC conference championship looked like they subbed in a pop warner team for the defenses.

@Pat11 Defensive minded conference?  LMFAO.  Did you just wake up from a year long hibernation?  You realize it's 2013 and not 2012, right?
