Ohio State coach Urban Meyer announced on Friday that guard Marcus Hall will not start against Michigan State in the Big Ten championship game.

Meyer declined to elaborate when he’d insert Hall in the game, only saying that he’s “very, very disappointed in his actions.”

Officials threw Hall out of Ohio State’s game against Michigan last weekend. While being escorted from the stadium, Hall flipped a double middle finger to the Michigan Stadium crowd, a scene reminiscent of something from the WWE.

Hall, a senior who starts at the right guard slot, is a linchpin of an offensive line that Meyer considers one of the Buckeyes’ biggest strengths. Hall’s role will be especially important against Michigan State, which boasts the country’s top-ranked defense.

Hall will be replaced by redshirt freshman Pat Elflein, who performed admirably in his stint against Michigan.

“Pat was a lot better than maybe any of us had expected,” Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman told the Columbus Dispatch this week. “Not necessarily because we didn’t think that he was capable of it, but maybe because of the stage and the limited amount of reps and preparation that your No. 2 offensive line gets. But he did a whale of a job in there.”

How long Elflein plays will certainly be an intriguing storyline for the Big Ten title game on Saturday.

On Friday, Meyer gave Elfein a strong endorsement: “Just a tough nut. I love Pat Elflein. He’s going to have a great career here. (I have) a lot of confidence in him.”

Oh...poor baby Hall. He will miss the first snap and then be put in the rest of the game. Urban Meyer is a JOKE and disgrace to CFB. Urban helps Ohio to look classless, shameless, and dirty.

Pat Elflein is very good, and he's a very good kid!  I know him personally and hope he plays the whole game.

I think one play is enough time for Hall to seriously think about consequences of his actions.

Ejected for fighting and as he walks out of the stadium he give the double fisted middle finger salute and all he gets is the bench for the start of the game.

And yet if you get hit with a targeting penalty you get suspended for two halves in the NCAA.

Stay Classy Urban and OSU!

Urban Meyer would show true strength of character as a coach if he would bench Hall for the entirety of this game.  College sports needs to be above this sort of behavior.  Sportsmanship should matter.  I feel quite confident that if the redshirt freshman does a good job, he stays in the game.  If they need Hall, he's going in.  That's unfortunate as Meyer has an opportunity to show current and future OSU players that you have to win and lose with honor.

He'll be in the game before all the fans find their seats.

This is on the impotent Big Ten, too, which didn't suspend Michigan players either and also fined Bo Pelini only pocket change for his idiocy in the Nebraska/Iowa game.

@Adolfis He shouldn't have been tossed in the first place.  UofM started it, 100%.  Fact that 2 OSU kids got tossed and only 1 UofM was ridiculous. He should have walked right up to the ref and given him the double bird!

@berkland4 So what you are really saying is that the 9 UofM kids who started the fight should be kicked off the team?

@PalmDos @Adolfis 100% accurate, Hall came over after the RB was encircled by their D, got his helmet ripped off, and punched in the face... I dont think there's any OL on any team in the country that wouldn't jump in at that point.

@PalmDos There were a lot of kids involved in the fight, that's not what this particular article is about and I didn't suggest that anyone should be kicked off any team, now did I?  When you start throwing out things like "who started it", you sound like a child.  Both coaches should have reviewed the tape and reprimanded those involved.  In this particular case,  Hall came off the bench to get involved and his behavior AFTER the ejection was abhorrent.  That's what's at issue here.  I'm glad Meyers is aware that he should be reprimanded, but if he wants to make certain that his team going forward understands that he won't tolerate such behavior, he'll bench him for the entirety of the game.  If he had accepted the ejection without throwing his helmet, kicking the bench and flipping off 100,000 people, I would feel differently.
