Florida completed a 4-8 (3-5 SEC) campaign with a 37-7 loss to Florida State on Saturday. On Sunday, the Gators began this offseason’s personnel overhaul. Offensive coordinator Brent Pease was fired after meeting with head coach Will Muschamp earlier this morning.
The Gators suffered more than their share of injuries in 2013, headlined by the loss of starting quarterback Jeff Driskel (fibula) and running back Matt Jones (knee). However, that clearly didn’t excuse the performance of an attack that ranked 112th nationally in total offense (316.7 yards per game). Florida averaged 18.8 points per game, 111th in the country.
School athletic director Jeremy Foley has repeatedly backed third-year coach Muschamp. The Gators owe Pease about $1.2 million for the remaining two years of his contract, according to the AP’s Mark Long.
According to CBS’ Bruce Feldman, offensive line coach Tim Davis has also been let go.
