Video: Ohio State and Michigan players get into fight; three ejected from the game

Big Ten, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes

(Via Eleven Warriors)

The Game is always heated, and even when one team is amid a disappointing season, Michigan and Ohio State tend to enter this matchup with an extra layer of motivation. After Jeremy Gallon made a 17-yard touchdown reception to give the Wolverines a 21-14 lead early in the second quarter, the two teams got into a fight on the ensuing kickoff.

Ohio State running back/wide receiver Dontre Wilson and offensive tackle Marcus Hall were ejected, as was Michigan backup linebacker Royce Jenkins-Stone. The officials will have their hands full keeping tempers in check for the remainder of the game, and the loss of one of the Buckeyes’ starting offensive linemen and a talented all-purpose back could have an impact in the later quarters.

On his way out of the stadium, Hall had a message for Michigan fans.

A young guy gets mad after a brawl in a game that promotes violence and makes a gesture toward a frothing crowd that's yelling insults at him and we're really shocked?  Please people, get real.

Maybe I'm being biased, but I don't think I would care if anyone on any team did this.  Obviously it can't happen all the time or else there's an issue, but he was being ejected and he was obviously very upset about that... so I do think he got punishment.

We basically give a pass to coaches who do similar things (have you seen Bo Pelini lately?  Bobby Knight was famous for showing his disgust publicly) and I think they probably should be held to a higher standard.  I'm alright with it - He was mad, it happens.  He was ejected. At worst maybe have him sit another quarter but really it's not like he's going to do it again - more punishment really is just others wanting to see OSU lose.

We all love great rivalries and know football coaches preach aggression, intimidation and never backing down, but this is sad to see, especially in college sports. The clip of the pregame bumping and trashtalking shows the stage was set for trouble.

Once the UM players surrounded the OSU player, it was clear an incident was coming unless the officials immediately stepped in. Three ejections seems very low, giving the amount of punches, etc on tape--it would have set a better example to review the video immediately and toss more.

There's really no reason to replay the classless act by Hall, other than to inflame people and capitalize on his heated idiocy. Despicable act by him. Shame on Hall, and even more so, shame on SI.com… and by the way even more shame on the thousand of grown adults who probably flashed the same birds and used even worse language as they watched this and many other games - that's right watched it, not lived it - in the comfort of their own living rooms. No excuse for Hall, but seriously idiots - enough with the righteousness.

Now, any Michigan fans or other yahoos on here that are blaming this on OSU "thugs" - take a look at the tape. Your guys surrounded Wilson, ripped his helmet off and started the whole thing… and then you only get 1 guy ejected? Bad situation, both teams should have behaved better. Let's move on.

And SEC fans - go poison a couple more trees, log a couple more player arrests, continue your record of academic "excellence," and then you come on back and tell us how OSU is the most classless program in the country. Geez, glass houses gents, glass houses…

Wow. If that fool flipping the bird doesn't scream "I play for Urban Meyer"...then nothing does. OSU is garbage. They play in a crap league where football is not serious.

But, I wonder what will happen to that miscreant? OSU is Convict U...it follows Urban like flies on crap.

hoke is the JOKE from Ohio!  Win over mi state puts the Bucks in the BCS Championship Game.  Thanks brady and the 9 starters you have on your squad from the great state of OHIO!

As always, the model student-athletes recruited by that fine, upstanding institution of higher learning are keeping in classy!

Go Lil' Brother!

They need to look at the video tape, #44 Delano Hill should be ejected as well.

Have to remember, top level programs are recruiting football players. They're not necessarily recruiting good citizens.

And these are students at a highly academic University?  "Sports" are no longer sports or games.  Football is a detriment to society and education.

#79 gone for the next two games.......... Nice form OSU

Gotta love you OSU fans calling Michigan "scum."  There is an old saying that says the cream always rises to the top.. When Hall walked out the stadium he showed all the class that represents his team and coach.

Any team that can go into that House and pull off a victory deserves respect. But will OSU get it? No. Name one, just one other team that is now 24-0 over the last 2 years.

drmiller166

The refs let that escalate by not stopping it immediately when all the Wolverines surrounded Wilson.  Just a thug play by the Wolverines to start a fight.

Both teams should be thrown out of bowl eligibility this season.

What a joke. How in the hell after all of that did scUM only get one player ejected? They initiated it with surrounding Wilson. Poorly coached teams resort to this kind of behavior.

@Rick G1 i would love to see a repeat of Florida State making complete fools out of an overrated  big 10 team, which is exactly what Ohio State is

@Rick G1

Right! next year they are coming to Columbus! We shall take of them again and WIN and beat them to submissions.

@Rick G1 1.) I don't think tOSU even beats MSU next week. 2.) Even if they do, a 1 loss SEC champion probably jumps them for the BCS championship

@Rick G1 You just gave up 600 yards to a lousy offense. Nice work spiffy. You'll get beat someplace...we all know it. You'll be the last one to get it.

Your team isn't that good.

@junior18 Awww, leave it to a UM fan to tell us to keep it classy after instigating the whole situation.

@GaryWilson2 Stop whining gary. Go get on your knees and worship Obama, the king of lowering the bar and turning America into pansies. If you don't like sports, go play with yourself.

@GaryWilson2 Nice overreaction.  Based on your post, drama classes are a detriment as well.

@Adolfis Apparently you missed who started the whole ruckus.

Both teams exhibited poor form, no one team is any less culpable.

@Cool If one player represents a whole team, what does it say when 6 players surround someone and instigate the fight by throwing the first punches?

@me1 I will remind you that Nebraska (8-4) won by 3 points, and held Michigan to 13 points in "The Big House" and then turned around and lost to Iowa.  I think Adolfis is correct, OSU is in a weak conference and they are probably overrated.

Adolfis
Adolfis

@me1 Ummm Yeah sure just look how tough their conference is. Put them in the SEC and see what they do over the same 2 year period.

@Ryan13 Sure they should Ryan.  I hope that you are not scarred for life from the violence that you witnessed.  Maybe you should call your mom.

@kcole473 Even worse, it looked like they never relented in attacking Wilson even when they stripped off his helmet.

@RichLGerhold @Adolfis Apparently you are blind to the double handed middle finger salute #79 did as he exited the stadium.

@Cool @me1Maybe the pollsters are not giving the Big Ten enough love. Bring some SEC teams up to Big Ten country, and see how they fair? I would wager those teams would NOT win as often as people think!

MichaelBauer
MichaelBauer

@Cool @me1 For the record, FSU has only four wins over teams with winning records. Ohio State has six. Just so you know, I am not counting FCS schools, because they should be beat no matter what their record is. The ACC is far worse than the Big 10. So, is FSU overrated, too?

MichaelBauer
MichaelBauer

@Adolfis @me1 They'd likely win it, fool! Look how bad your teams are this year. The Big 12 was better, top to bottom, than the SEC the past two years, and the PAC 12 is better this year. Two middling Big 12 teams came into your conference and have kicked a lot of SEC a$$. The SEC is still a fine conference, but if it weren't for ESPN and CBS money being invested in the hype machine. The Big 10 had a better OOC record than the SEC this year, and last time I checked, each conference was .500 against itself. When one of your teams loses to an FCS team, you need to stop calling yourselves tough.

@doghockey @Ryan13 It's not a gladiator exhibition ... it's supposed to be a game, a sport, played by students at highly academic Universities. Perhaps you need to recall what education is; what civil society is.

danboz11
danboz11

@Adolfis @RichLGerhold You need to brush up on your reading comprehension skills kiddo.  He didn't deny that fact, he merely pointed out that UM instigated the whole situation and that nobody walked away innocent.

doghockey
doghockey

@GaryWilson2 Humans have always had physical conflicts.  Even in civil societies.   If you are unaware of this fact, you did not pay close attention during your time at a highly academic university.
