Video: Auburn beats Alabama 34-28 with missed field goal return for a touchdown

Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, SEC

This year’s Iron Bowl will go down as one of the most memorable games in college football history. After Alabama running back T.J. Yeldon ran out of bounds with one second remaining in the fourth quarter of a 28-28 game, the top-ranked Crimson Tide lined up to attempt a game-winning 57-yard field goal.

Instead, the attempt by kicker Adam Griffith — a redshirt freshman from Calhoun, Ga. — fell just short, and Auburn senior Chris Davis raced more than 100 yards, from end zone to end zone, to give the Tigers a miraculous 34-28 win. The stunning touchdown knocked Alabama from the ranks of the unbeaten and effectively ended the Crimson Tide’s chances of winning a third consecutive national title.

Now, Auburn will play in the SEC championship — and Ohio State fans are suddenly ready to play the lottery.

Here’s the radio call:

Not so fast Mr. Apple.  Chances are OSU won't get by MSU if they play as they did yesterday. Secondly, a one loss SEC team could leap over OSU after the SEC championship.   If undefeated was the only criteria NIU would be getting some love too.

Ohio State and Florida State for the crown.....Now that sound like a boring game....

The TD pass by Auburn had to be one of the ugliest passes ever to turn out to  be revered forever by its team's fans--it was only a little less awkward looking than the Garo Ypremian Super Bowl pass.  I hope the defensive back receives more criticism than the fg kicker, who had a much harder task and came much closer to pulling it off.

I would also like to hear the Bama radio call. Props to the tv announcer who noted missed FGs can be returned.

Who ever thought a Big 0 team could have 2 straight undefeated seasons and not play for the national title?

And what a shame the FSU rape charge is not resolved one way or the other.

Loved the radio call, such passion. Hated the "no flags" call by the TV team, boring and weak.

Today I stopped being an SEC hater. That's where the best teams are, and as we saw today, the best games.

Wow!

Epic finish.  As a Bama fan I am obviously disappointed but hope we can keep the Championship instate for a fifth consecutive year.  Just became a huge Michigan State fan-- go Sparty!

@cerphr if an SEC team were to leap frog over an undefeated OSU, it would be the end of the BCS as we know it.

@mkd09 As a Michigan fan I 100@ agree w/ ya, except for a different reason.  I don't want Ohio State getting a whiff of the NC.  I'm always amazed at how you folks can root for your rivals down there.

@Dannknee @mkd09  I am actually looking forward to Ohio State playing to expose them for what the are..They play in a very weak division and have scrapped by wins more than once..FSU in a blowout.

@Dannknee @mkd09 Just my opinion, but having lived all over the country-- the West has the California glam and the pristine outdoor activities, the midwest has Americana and apple pie, and the Northeast has money.  All we have down south is college football, southern cookin' and stifling humidity! If my team can't win, at least our rivals can keep the state pastime going.
