Video: Nebraska coach Bo Pelini wasn’t fond of halftime question

Bo Pelini, Nebraska Cornhuskers

Earlier this season, an explicative-laced tape of Nebraska coach Bo Pelini complaining about fans was leaked, which led to Pelini apologizing and the Nebraska chancellor releasing a statement. So it’s not as though Pelini is known for his even keel.

At halftime of Friday’s game with Iowa, ABC sideline reporter Quint Kessenich asked a question about the Cornhuskers’ two interceptions in the first half, to which Pelini responded, “Well, what do you think? What kind of question is that?”

Nebraska trailed Iowa, 14-3, at halftime.

The reporter, Quint Kessenich, asked Bo what he thought of the two interceptions.  That's a stupid question.  Kessenich deserved a much bigger dressing down than he got.  Is Kessenich the best ABC can do on the sideline?  So SI and others come along a rip Pelini for saying what ANY CHIEF EXECUTIVE of any entity might have said.  Are there any real journalists out there?  Is sports where the reporting dregs go?

Lloyd Carr had a similar answer to a halftime reporter in the 2003 M-OSU game and got lambasted.  These coaches need to be given a break in the heat of the game, where their minds are not on idiotic halftime reporter questions but rather on their team and what changes need to be made at halftime.

I loathe the nutjobs that they call sideline reporters.  Empty-headed pieces of fluff usually and rarely do they show any true journalistic ability.  I dislike Bo but his response was what the question deserved.  That said, I suspect we will not see Bo as the Husker's coach next year.

I'm sorry but that stupid question deserved the answer it got.  SI says "Pelini rips halftime question".  He actually said it at a very even tone.

This reminds me of the retarded question Tom Brady was asked after the game Broncos-Pats game.  "How do you think Peyton Manning will remember the game?"  Hmmm... He's gonna look back fondly.... How the heck do you think he's gonna feel?

Say what you want about Pelini, but that was the dumbest question of the year. Was he supposed to say, "Yeah, I'm very excited that my QB threw two interceptions!"

That reminded me of the question someone asked Tommy Lasorda back in the day after the Dodgers lost to the Cubs on three Dave Kingman home runs - "What did you think of Kingman's performance" and Tommy lashed into an classic expletive laden response.  Of course the difference, other than sports, is people liked Tommy, Bo, no so much....

It was as stupid a question as I've heard since, well, since last week, probably. Pelini is easy to hate, but he was entitled to answer the way he did. Idiotic, thoughtless questions should be treated as such.  The reporter should be ashamed of his lack of professionalism. He needs to be suspended for stupidity.

taking pelini out of the equation, sideline reporters are pretty much useless.

First of all, it was a stupid question, no matter how much you dislike Bo, just what exactly did this reporter expect him to say? "Well we thought they were some nice interceptions and congratulate Iowa and catching them."   ???   That being said, Bo has done enough this 3rd qtr to get himself fired.

Pelini is already on a short rope due to both  his underwhelming record and his previous outbursts -- he'll be looking for a new job soon enough.

Well, he's certainly redeemed himself with the Unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and the decision to try a fake punt in the red zone.

@rkcla08 Yeah, they frequently put attractive women in that job. But knowing that they usually are better prepared. They don't want viewers to think they were hired solely for their looks. This guy was an a$$.
