Iron Bowl jumps to second-most expensive ticket in college football this year

One season after Alabama dismantled Auburn 49-0 in the 2012 Iron Bowl, tickets to this year’s installment of the SEC rivalry are garnering the second-highest asking price of the 2013 college football season.

TiqIQ.com, which averages asking prices across major online sellers, puts the average asking price for a ticket to No. 6 Auburn’s home game against No. 1 Alabama on Nov. 30 at $618.80, according to Jon Solomon of the Birmingham News. That’s higher than the asking price of all but one college football game this season: Alabama’s clash with Texas A&M on Sept. 14, which drew an average asking price of $820.27.

The Iron Bowl is even outdrawing the upcoming SEC title game.

This year’s Iron Bowl is currently 14 percent higher than the SEC Championship Game ($542.65 average asking price), which has yet to identify its participants. Also, Alabama-Auburn is more expensive than this year’s priciest NFL regular-season game (Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos, $588.61).

In July, the average asking price for the Iron Bowl was $348.34 at TiqIQ.com, an amount that then ranked 14th in the country.

I think the AL/A&M tickets were the highest average price on the secondary market for a regular season game of all time, too, not just this year. And that to win that title they surpassed the previous record set in 2011...by Alabama versus LSU.

Second most expensive ticket for about the 4th best rivalry game. Not bad I suppose...

Auburn by a touchdown....you heard it first here.  As much as I hate Auburn (beat my ducks a few years back) I despise Bama, and hope to hell this upset happens.  Put FSU against OSU in the Natty.....that would be a great game.

Gus has done a great job at Auburn. Wonder how Chizak feels knowing Gus is winning with gene's players??

@bornindetroit What are the other three?  I can only think of one that's better and I doubt it's on your list: Army vs. Navy

From your username I can only assume they are three Big Ten contests.

@dandogwood Chizik is a tool.  He held Gus back in 2011 and that's why he bolted to Arkansas State.

I had my doubts on the Gus hire, but it looks like he knows what he's doing.  I just hope he doesn't morph into Terry Bowden in a year or two.
