Baylor has become the biggest threat to Ohio State’s No. 3 spot in the rankings. (Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

Unbeaten Baylor jumped to No. 4 in the latest BCS rankings released on Sunday, just behind No. 3 Ohio State.

Thanks to Stanford’s loss to USC on Saturday, the Bears moved even closer to the Buckeyes in the BCS rankings. Alabama (No. 1) and Florida State (2) remained in the lead, while Oregon climbed one spot to No. 5.

The complete BCS rankings:

1. Alabama
2. Florida State
3. Ohio State
4. Baylor
5. Oregon
6. Auburn
7. Clemson
8. Missouri
9. Stanford
10. Oklahoma State
11. South Carolina
12. Texas A&M
13. Michigan State
14. UCLA
15. Fresno State
16. Northern Illinois
17. Arizona State
18. UCF
19. Wisconsin
20 Oklahoma
21. Louisville
22. LSU
23. USC
24. Ole Miss
25. Minnesota

A few thoughts:

• At this point, Alabama and Florida State can pack their bags for Pasadena if both teams win out. That’s why the BCS battle to watch will be the No. 3 spot. Each week, it seems Baylor becomes a bigger threat to Ohio State’s hold on the third BCS spot. Thanks to Stanford’s 20-17 loss to USC, the Bears are now even closer to jumping the Buckeyes as the season draws to a close, and this coming weekend could be when that happens. Baylor faces off against Oklahoma State, which currently sits at No. 10 in the BCS. Ohio State plays an Indiana team that’s won only two Big Ten games. Provided the Bears take care of business on the road, expect a flip-flop in the rankings next week.

• Does anybody remember when Auburn won three total games and went winless in the SEC in 2012? Nobody on the Plains probably does after the Tigers’ miraculous win over Georgia on Saturday. After moving up one spot in the BCS rankings to No. 6, Auburn now heads into a bye week before facing one of the most pivotal Iron Bowls in recent memory. These Tigers aren’t just a turnaround story; they’re now a legit contender in the SEC and, if Alabama isn’t careful, Auburn could very likely sneak into the BCS title conversation.

• Ohio State and Michigan State get most of the headlines in the Big Ten, but Minnesota has quietly put together an eight-win season in 2013. Now the Gophers have jumped into the BCS rankings at No. 25. This is a team that won six games last year but lost four of its last five. In light of head coach Jerry Kill’s health issues surrounding epileptic seizures, this has to be a nice feel-good story for the folks in Minneapolis.

The absurdity of not having a playoff may reach its apex this year if Ohio State has a 22 game win streak and Baylor is undefeated, yet neither has a chance at the title. It is bad enough that  the system discourages teams from playing tough out of conference opponents.

Imagine if instead of taking December off, then 35 meaningless bowl games, many featuring 6-5 teams, we had a  3 week, 8 team playoff or 4 week, 16 team tournament?

I think Bama is probably the best team, but would enjoy a few weeks of seeing them vs. Ohio State; Manziel vs. Oregon; Stanford vs. FSU; etc.

to eliminate all the belly aching and what if's let's just push hard for a 16 team National Championship playoff.

It's because the Pac 12 conference from top to bottom is the toughest in the country. Let's line up Stanford vs. Auburn and Oregon vs. Alabama and the Pac 12 would be 2-0 as their out of conference record shows how dominate they are.

Barely beat unranked Georgia?  Let's move you up a spot.  Lose to unranked USC? Don't worry bro, still top 10.  I just don't understand.

@JonPaley The same powerhouse Oregon that Auburn (66th ranked defense) and LSU beat? And isn't Oregon the poster child for the PAC12? Sorry dude, Bama guy living in Seattle now for 10 years, this is flag football.

@StevePerry Where would you put Stanford? USC is not unranked #23. I could see behind Michigan St and Oklahoma St but I wouldn't put them below 11. They have 3 top 25 wins, T A&M has lost to tough teams but only 1 top 25 win, same with S. Carolina and Wisconsin. If you are going to complain give an alternative.

@StevePerry I know right....Stanford has lost to two un-ranked teams and their still in the top 10....what a joke.

@steve4nj I don't think it really matters.  Alabama was exposed again and I believe they will lose to Auburn or in the SEC Championship game.  I keep hearing about OSU's weak schedule but somehow Baylor's is better?  What a joke.  You are right, FSU is the #1 team in the country right now and is the only one that has proven themselves as deserving to play in the NC game thus far.

@steve4nj computers don't measure the level of play: only win or loss, essentially.  and you're hot.  i don't know if you're a dude or a chick, but i just think you're attractive either way.

@BrettRoar @steve4nj You don't watch much football do you? That game was never even close. And you certainly don't know Saban. Think he's going to give ANYONE any film? That might be the most vanilla game of Saban's tenure.  Let me know when FSU can hang it's hat on beating someone other than a pathetic Miami and defenseless Clemson.

@BrettRoar @steve4nj I hope your right about Alabama losing. But I believe that Bama has proven to be #1 close with Florida St. OSU and Baylor both have weak schedules that is why they are neck and neck and will continue to be if they both win out. It will be interesting to see who gets the call if Bama or FSU loses. The team that doesn't make it will be getting what they deserve when they schedule like they did this year.

@BrettRoar @steve4nj I agree 100% to your comment.  This is coming from a very disappointed Oregon Duck.  Hey, we still have a chance at the Rose Bowl.
