Oregon RB De’Anthony Thomas: Ducks should score 40 on Stanford

Oregon Ducks, Stanford Cardinal

Oregon running back De’Anthony Thomas doesn’t think the Ducks will have many problems scoring points on Stanford’s defense in Thursday night’s Pac-12 showdown.

On Monday, Thomas was asked by reporters if the Cardinal could hold Oregon’s high-powered offense to 14 points. (H/T GoDucks.com)

“I don’t think so,” Thomas said. “I feel like this team, we should at least put up 40 [points].”

Thomas and the Ducks currently rank second in the country in scoring offense (55.6 points per game) and total offense (632.1 yards per game). Under first-year head coach Mark Helfrich, Oregon has scored more than 40 points in Pac-12 games against Washington (45) and UCLA (42), the program’s two biggest defensive tests this season. But Thursday’s game against Stanford will be the toughest challenge yet for the Ducks’ offense, as the Cardinal allow only 19.4 points per game. Stanford surrendered just 22 points combined in victories over Oregon State and UCLA in its past two contests.

But Thomas said this year’s Oregon offense is better than last year’s unit, which finished the 2012 season averaging 49.5 points per game (second in the country) and 537.4 yards per game (fifth).

“I feel like we’re a better team,” Thomas said. “We’re just a new generation of players. We just have a lot of guys that can contribute to the offense. That’s what makes this offense so dynamic.”

History is on squarely on DAT’s side:

 Oregon scoring vs. Stanford:

 Last 4 yrs: 40 ppg (42, 52, 53, 14)

Last 8 yrs: 43 ppg

BCS era: 42 ppg

Last year was clearly an aberration.

Cal fan here<-------| :0)  Oregon 56 vs. Stanford 14.....Oregon is once again on the BIGGEST stage to show the world who's badazz to the bone in College Football. Last year was a fluke, Stanford played a team who were trying to find their identity in certain key positions and let alone plays. In which Oregon almost pulled it off, had some key plays been executed the way it was intended. Fast forward in 2013, Oregon Ducks have mature to step up to the plate but ONLY this time, FINISH the race with class and the season UNDEFEATED and UNSEAT Alabama in a NEVER before seen in College game History. Scoreboard off the hook to the moon and back!!!

Isn't this sort of bragging a kiss of death? Seems every time some hotshot opens his mouth to the press about how his team should cream the other guy or do super well, that's exactly when they don't.

All they need is one more point than Stanford. And they may find that difficult.

Come on De'  man, put a sock in  it. and shut your pie hole.  Do the talking on the field and stop giving Stanford material.  The last thing America needs is another SEC/ Big ten or ACC match-up.  Do the PAC a favor and shut your mouth and play the game.

@Wesley7 it maybe for you but not him. He is just being himself, confidence and truthful. What would you rather him say? they are gonna just be door mats?  Exactly, that's what i thought.

@dcoxfinancing he's a kid....in an oregon uni (one of the millions of varities.)  he talks like an oregon fan.  you should support him.  and.. i'm reading between the lines here: you think oregon WON'T choke at the end of THIS season?  sorry, but i have complete faith in them.  they will be the best 1 or 2-loss team like they are every...single....f-ing...year.

@DonMenkenzie

They lost and only scored 20 total in doing so. Tell me how well his braggadocio played out again? Show me the skills on the field, not in the pre-game press interviews...

@duckfan59 @DonMenkenzie not even an Oregon fan but i'm thankful they play in the same conference my team is in. Oregon has giving CAL reason to become a better team in the near future. Maybe a chance of QB would be a start. It's not about stats, when will these young gunner's realize? it's about WINNING, that's why you play.
