After former FAU coach Carl Pelini resigned on Wednesday, athletic director Pat Chun mentioned “illegal drug use” as the reason for the decision. Through the Freedom of Information Act, SB Nation’s Spencer Hall and Brendan Porath acquired records of affidavits from two individuals who claimed they witnessed Pelini use drugs “on occasion” and that he used both marijuana and cocaine.

“My name is Matt Edwards, and I am personally familiar with the facts contained in this Affidavit. On October 19, 2013, I personally observed Carl Pelini smoking marijuana in Key West, Florida. Within the last 12 months, I have personally observed Carl Pelini use both marijuana and cocaine. Within the last 12 months, I have personally observed Pete Rekstis use both marijuana and cocaine.”

The full affidavits, along with copies of the resignation letters of former defensive coordinator Rekstis and Pelini can be found at SB Nation. The 2-6 Owls play Tulane on Saturday under interim coach Brian Wright.

Being a Husker fan, I thought that Carl should not have his coaching career destroy because he smoked some pot, big deal. But the cocaine? That's tough, how are you going to sell parents to come play for a guy that has done so much coke that he has eye witness. Poor, poor judgement in his part, hopefully with some time passes, he can get another chance.

I say test all coaches.  I think they should be held to same standard as their players. They should have 5 tests a year at random.  3 of which during their season and cannot be lumped in a few week time span.

Mary Jane?  No big deal.

Cocaine?  Sorry, that's freaking ridiculous.  If (a) you're using and (b) you're using so much that you're doing it in plain sight, you deserve to be canned.

This is going to be that story that in 10 years you look back and just laugh at everyone involved besides Pelini with this situation for how much they all treated this like a bunch of 2 year olds

Raping kids in showers - one thing. Paying players - ok not as bad as the first but still wrong. But this? Who cares? He got fired bc he was a bad coach. The drug use was just ammo.

LMFAO... I knew powder was a culprit because with a nose like that he could vacuum massive lines up it... Too bad it didnt help change the irrelevance of the FAU program .

@CubanMustGo From experience, I find weed to impair my judgment far more then hitting the slopes. I don't do ether anymore, that said, both should be legal.
