Alabama junior safety Vinnie Sunseri will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL, coach Nick Saban confirmed Monday. Sunseri will have surgery Tuesday.

Sunseri suffered the injury in the first quarter of Saturday’s 52-0 win against Arkansas. After heading to the locker room, he returned to the sidelines in street clothes and received hugs from teammates.

Saban told reporters after the game that Sunseri would undergo an MRI on Sunday. “We’ll see what the verdict is,” Saban said on Saturday, “but it could be serious.”

Sunseri has 20 tackles on the season — seventh on the team — four pass breakups and two interceptions, with both picks returned for touchdowns. Landon Collins is expected to fill the void at safety in Sunseri’s absence.

I'm not concerned with which safety is better, they both played.  I am more worried about what this does to our depth in the secondary.

Sunseri's replacement, Landon Collins, is even better at safety. He's be waiting for an opportunity to play. Bama's D just got even better.

@SECownsCFB I don't think so. Sunseri made everybody around him better with his leadership. He also had a knack for being in the right place at the right time. Oh well ... Collins certainly won't make the defense worse at least.

@SECownsCFB So just out of curiosity, Saban started Sunseri over Collins because....?   With all due respect, if Nick Saban thought Vinny Sunseri was a more effective player than Landon Collins, he was probably right.

@John52 @canine34 @SECownsCFB John is absolutely correct.  Pure talent-wise, Collins is a lot better...Sunseri is just a pure football player with phenomenal leadership skills...
