Texas QB David Ash out vs. Ole Miss
Texas will be without starting quarterback David Ash when it welcomes No. 25 Ole Miss to Austin on Saturday, the Longhorn Network reports.
Ash was taken out of the fourth quarter of Longhorns’ 40-21 loss to BYU last week and was treated for head and shoulder injuries earlier this week, when coach Mack Brown announced that he was questionable for the game against the Rebels. Senior Case McCoy took Ash’s place against the Cougars, finishing 5-for-10 for 62 yards in the loss. McCoy will reportedly assume the starting role on Saturday, with freshman Tyrone Swoopes serving as his backup.
At his media appearance this week, Brown said he didn’t expect a drop-off from his team if Ash were to be sidelined.
“The guys trust Case. There won’t be panic if David’s not out there.”
Ash passed for 594 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions in two games this season, and he also ranks as the team’s leading rusher with 125 yards. The Longhorns already confirmed that running back/wide receiver Daje Johnson would miss the game against Ole Miss with an ankle injury, so losing Ash serves as yet another hit to the offense.
