Brady Hoke says Johnny Manziel would ‘probably be playing behind Devin Gardner’

Brady Hoke, Week In Quotes

I’m still not exactly sure why this question came up in the first place, but Johnny Manziel is a hot topic of conversation. On his radio show, Dan Patrick asked Michigan coach Brady Hoke about the Texas A&M quarterback. Even though the Wolverines play Notre Dame this week. And are in the Big Ten. And don’t play play the Aggies (and haven’t since 1995).

Patrick: “If Johnny Manizel is your quarterback … finish that sentence.” Hoke: “If Johnny Manziel is our quarterback, he’d probably be playing behind Devin Gardner. Devin Gardner, I’ve got a lot of faith in.”

(The Manziel segment starts at the 7:10 mark. But the whole interview is fun; Hoke talks about the Jadeveon Clowney hit on running back Vincent Smith in last season’s Outback Bowl, as well as the Michigan-Notre Dame rivalry. In response to a question about everyone having their own opinion, he even says “some people think I’m skinny.”)

I don’t really think there’s much to his comments about Manziel. Gardner is the Wolverines’ starting quarterback, so of course Hoke is going to pick his guy over some arbitrary random quarterback, even if that arbitrary random quarterback is the reigning Heisman Trophy winner. No player wants to hear his coach go on national radio and say, “Well, of course I’ll take this other player, he’s much better.”

Props to Hoke for being smart and loyal, both admirable traits in a Michigan Man.

What exactly was Hoke supposed to say?

Oh God, this is like going to a dance and being asked in front of your date "Would you rather be here with that girl over there?" Only a complete moron would say yes....Hoke is no moron... Nobody really believes that Gardner is better, including Hoke.

people forget that Gardner was one of the top Dual-Threat QBs in the country coming out of high school.  Hes a superb athlete and has a cannon arm.  When he gets some experience under his belt - he could really be something
