Mike Leach praises Jadeveon Clowney hit during Pac-12 media day presser
There are plenty of things reporters could have asked Mike Leach at Pac-12 media day on Friday. How to reform the NCAA; how to fix an offense that ranked 108th in scoring and 124th in rushing a year ago; how to bounce back after a disappointing 3-9 season which included an eight-game losing streak.
Naturally, however, one of the first questions Leach fielded was about Jadeveon Clowney. How did Leach respond?
“The Clowney hit is why we have football,” Leach said. “It’s why football was invented.”
It doesn’t matter that Washington State is 2,647 miles and a 39-hour drive from the University of South Carolina (via Google Maps). The Clowney hit has come up at every conference media day, and it’s going to garner even more attention as the new targeting rules go into effect. Debate has raged over whether the Clowney hit would be legal under the new rules, but the consensus is that Clowney can keep being Clowney. Hopefully for Washington State fans, Leach’s offense in 2013 will look a bit more like Leach’s offenses of old.
