Arizona State’s Andres Garcia dismissed from team after sexual assault arrest

An Arizona State football player has been kicked off the team following his arrest. The Tempe police department arrested walk-on defensive back Andres Garcia late Sunday night on two counts of sexual assault and one count of assault/domestic violence, according to Phoenix’s KPHO.
Reports state that Garcia was involved in an argument with a female late Friday night when he shoved her into a wall, knocking her unconscious. She soon regained consciousness and friends opted against taking her to the hospital, instead taking her back to her room to rest.
That’s where Garcia allegedly raped the victim, according to the report:
The victim was carried to her bedroom by Garcia and a friend. Garcia said that he wanted to talk to the victim so Garcia was left alone with the victim. The victim said she could see and hear but could not cry, yell or move her body when Garcia allegedly raped her, according to the police report.
Police said the victim’s roommate said Garcia told her that he had sex with the victim and that “she didn’t say no,” according to the police report.
The police report also stated that Garcia called the victim’s mother about 4 a.m. and told her that he had taken advantage of the victim while she was passed out.
Tempe police said Garcia called the victim on Saturday to apologize and ask her not to press charges.
Garcia was out of town over the weekend, but he was arrested upon his return to Tempe on Sunday night.
Arizona State confirmed to KPHO that Garcia has been kicked off the team, and his biography was removed from the team’s website.
In an unrelated incident from last month, a second Sun Devils player — senior defensive end Nduka “Junior” Onyeali — is also facing a domestic violence charge. Onyeali allegedly smashed his girlfriend’s driver’s side windshield during an argument on May 19. She was not in the car at the time.
Onyeali currently faces a misdemeanor domestic violence criminal damage charge. His biography remains on the Arizona State football website.
