Alex Collins wants to play for Arkansas; his mom apparently does not concur

Four-star running back Alex Collins verbally committed to Arkansas, but has yet to submit his Letter of Intent. (Landov)

Update: CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd reported Thursday morning that Collins is ready to sign with Arkansas.
Alex Collins, a four-star running back from South Plantation, Fla., has gotten caught up in some classic Signing Day Mama Drama.
Collins went on television Monday night to verbally commit to Arkansas, and while Hogs’ coach Bret Bielema was presumably thrilled to land the blue-chip rusher, it appears that not everyone was pleased with the development. Midday Wednesday, reports surfaced stating that Collins had canceled his afternoon high school ceremony because he needed more time to think. Then, things got really interesting. It turns out Collins’ mother wants her son to stay closer to their Florida home, reportedly preferring the Miami Hurricanes to the Razorbacks. How adamant is she? Well…
ESPNU: Arkansas commit Alex Collins' mom "confiscated his papers" & left. But there's not too much pressure on these kids, right?—

That’s right: According to ESPN’s Corey Long, Collins’ mother snatched her son’s National Letter of Intent and fled before Collins could send his fax to Arkansas. For the uninitiated: Underage recruits need a parent or guardian to sign the NLI in order to make it valid. Collins is 18, but recruits younger than 21 need a co-signature. From the NCAA’s NLI Frequently Asked Questions hub:
The latest reports from CBS indicate this drama will be short-lived and Collins will officially be a Razorback by day’s end. But we should drink this up, because it’s not like a recruit named “Collins” makes headlines every year for pissing off his mother with his college choice. Oh, wait…

More updates as they come. In the meantime, since this is Campus Union, we’d like to share some jokes:
Excellent point, I question his speed now RT @chastain_tyler Can't Collins outrun his mom and catch her?—

It must be weird having Bo Jackson as your mom. cbsprt.co/AlexCollins—

Are we sure that Alex Collins' "mom" isn't actually Nick Saban?—

Why the deuce is a parent's signature required for recruits under 21? Seems a bit much. Aren't those who are 18 able to sign up for military duty without parental consent?
Way to go mom. The biggest day of your kids life and you pull a Jerry Springer. I am a Bama fan and I am pulling for Alex Collins to have a huge career at Arky. Good luck Alex!
College sports provide no end of entertainment.
Good Luck to whatever team this kid goes to...Got to believe Arkansas may have a blessing in disguise by not having this kids Mom around to deal with...That is one controlling Mother......................
Mom knows best! Come to Wisconsin, young man and break records, then play in the NFL.
Another young man who had his day ruined by a selfish mother. Let the kid go where he's happy!
So at 18 you can join the military on your win but the NCAA makes your parents approve where you go to college?
Bielema has just gotten to the SEC, and he has to deal with this. Goes to show him. But, now that he's in the SEC, at least he can do away with the silly pretense of making a show of actually providing his players an education. There's no place for that in the SEC.
What happened to 18 being the threshold for adulthood? You're 18 years old and your still need a parents signature? Seriously?
