In which our Herschel Sims hand is forced

We weren’t particularly interested in last week’s dismissal of Oklahoma State running back Herschel Sims (for the Ever-Popular-And-Mysterious Violation Of Team Rules), because he occupies a place on the depth chart that’s two slots behind Joseph Randle. But then Sims’ high school coach attempted to explain the situation to the press, and that’s always where things get entertaining. As told to the Tulsa World:
“Based on what Herschel told me, there has been some miscommunication between him and his teammate,” said Steve Warren, Sims’ coach at Abilene (Texas) High School. “At the same time, he indicated to me that he made a mistake in the way he handled that situation, the way he went about it with his teammate and things like that.”
This is not an inaccurate assessment of the situation, but Sims allegedly swiped a teammate’s ID to withdraw $700 from his bank account, which is quite a lofty (and lucrative) “miscommunication.” We call this “the Community Chest defense.”
